Establishing A Truly Devotional Life Before God • Listen to a Preview •
Randall Worley
Many questions were answered about establishing a truly devotional life, for example, when do you pray? How long do you pray? How often should you fast? How long is enough? These questions and many more were answered by Apostle Worley. It is not about getting God to respond to us, but about us responding to God. God is not moody but He has certain moods and we have to be able to discern those particular moods. Otherwise we will find ourselves fulfilling the scripture that says ‘The letter killeth but it is the Spirit that giveth life.’ Our devotional life should not be based solely on discipline but about delighting in the Lord. The word delight has to do with becoming pliable. Timothy wrote that the holy men of old wrote as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost. What does that mean? We have this image of it as a writing project, where they got up early in the morning with parchment and with quill and began to write. The words moved upon refers to a mariner, those men who captained vessels in the first century. If the wind of the Holy Ghost is not blowing, we would be better off just sitting still rather than feverishly rowing, because most of our rowing is just rowing in circles anyway. The disciples were toiling and rowing. What the Lord wants us to understand is to wait until the wind blows for things to be accomplished. Jesus prayed all night long before He chose the disciples, but He only did it once. It is supposed to be based on intimacy and spontaneity. It has to do with relationship and fellowship with Him. We have to understand it is about a divine romance. It is a lot better when it is spontaneous.
Apostle Worley has come to the conclusion that when we gather as the church to worship it seems as though sometimes the worship team has fallen flat, we jump up and we start trying to bind every spirit we can think of. Those spirits did not manifest until we started talking about them. We have got to learn how to pay attention to the right things and ignore the wrong things. Things we attach significance to are the things that are causing the problems because what we think is our problem is not the real problem. It is the way we see our problem that is the problem. There are times we stir up emotions in a service, but God is not in it. What we would be better off doing is being honest. If we could be discerning enough to recognize when God is or is not in what we are doing. Don’t continue doing anything that God is not in. Establish a Truly Devotion Life Before God and He will always be in the midst.
