PRAISE POWER CELEBRATION AFRICA
APRIL 6-9, 2000
KENYA, AFRICA

On April 3, 2000 my life changed. Traveling through time zones and over countries, I stepped off of a plane and on to the ancient soil of Africa. This one predestined step was the beginning of a journey that forever altered what I believed about Africa, her people and worship.

I traveled to Nakuru, Kenya with Bishop Thomas Wesley Weeks, Sr. The delegation consisted of other bishops, pastors, evangelists and laypersons to participate in the first Praise Power Africa. Our purpose was to share with our brothers and sisters in Africa mutual love and praise for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I don't believe any of us were prepared for what they shared with us.

Our arrival was greatly anticipated and they prepared for our every comfort. We were humbled because we knew this took great effort on their part. I have been blessed to travel to other lands but I have never experienced the hospitality showed to us in Africa. Like many Westerners, I knew little of Africans, and what I had been taught was not what I experienced. They personified Christian love in all they did. They shared their hearts. From the endless visual majesty this God created land holds to the unparalleled beauty and diversity of her people. Even this did not compare to the total abandonment of self in the praise and worship that more than 4,000 Africans representing more than 30 tribes offered to the Lord. While their offerings might challenge some of our traditions, there can be no argument that it was acceptable to the Lord. He displayed His power in a miraculous way that left none of us the same. We went to deliver the Word but we received a greater appreciation of praise. Over 200 Souls were filled with the Holy Ghost and more than 60 were baptized in the Name of Jesus. We witnessed healing, deliverance and prophesies. In one seminar, we had “The Day of Pentecost” experience! The Holy Ghost just moved in while we were “sitting” in our seats.

The Ministry and vision of Bishop Weeks is global and its effect on Kenya is just the beginning of God's move in the Motherland.

Our brethren in Kenya now know that there is spiritual unity with their new brothers and sisters in America. I believe this conference renewed their strength in God and empowered them to spread His Word beyond their borders.

God met us in Africa and while the conference is over, the experience will never end. Our African brethren have obstacles to overcome. Many of them worship in churches that are little more than huts. Many face economic challenges that some of us have never experienced even in our lean days. Yet, after witnessing the Mighty Hand of God, I have not doubt that He will deliver.

My life did change in Africa. I have a greater appreciation for the Lord and His people from all walks of life who came together to worship Him and to witness the unfolding of a vision. I praise God now with renewed vigor and gratitude. It is not just for what He's done, but for who He is, and eternal praise for whose I am.
Destined,
