Too many born again believers are fighting depression. Depression is a psychotic disorder marked by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking, feelings of dejection and hopelessness. Rather than enjoying life, it is easy find to find yourself struggling through the best of days. You will feel lonely even in the midst of a crowd.
When the Healer, He who is also life itself, enters your life, your response to living should be one of joy, peace and contentment. However, many find this difficult because of the many negative thoughts they have accepted as true. The basis for many of these thoughts is the idea that we are victims. Victimization is evil and cruel. It is like being in a prison with no walls. You are free, but yet bound.
As a victim you feel like you have lost control. Events are overtaking you and your only out is to run; if not physically, at least mentally. At least the running is your decision and you are in control. However, the truth is that we run because we feel we have no other alternative.
In the 22 Chapter of Genesis, Isaac becomes a victim of his fathers desire to please God. He is tied hand and foot by Abraham and put on an altar. Abraham lifts up a dagger to plunge it into the heart of his son. Can you imagine the trauma Isaac faced in this ordeal? At the last critical moment Abraham hears the Voice of God that tells him to spare his son and rather kill a ram that was caught in a thicket.
This incident is a dividing line in the life of this family. After the incident there is no mention of Abraham and Isaac being together or having a conversation, nor a conversation between Abraham and his wife, Sarah. On Sarahs death, Abraham leaves where he is living and goes to bury Sarah where she had lived and died. After the incident the only time the Bible puts Abraham and Isaac together is at Abrahams death approximately 60 years later.
In the 26th Chapter of Genesis we read the story of Isaac, which begins with the Lord trying to get him to move on with his life. The Lord informs him that his blessings are flowing to him because of the faithfulness of his father. The lesson for Isaac and many of us is, the incident that victimized us might be our greatest blessing if we can move on with our life . In Verse Twelve, we find Isaac doing something positive and receiving a hundred-fold blessing.
